Advanced REcords System (ARES) documents, the corporate document management system for official documents at the European Commission

Information:

ARES concerns documents that:
- are received or formally drawn up by a Commission department in the course of its activities (e.g. documents that have been signed or approved rather than the first rough draft of a text),
- are likely to require action (e.g. a complaint which must be answered) or which involve the responsibility of the Commission (e.g. a contract), and
- contain important information, which is not short-lived (e.g. a Decision, a speech).
Subsequent OIDs identify ARES registered documents by direct mapping with their ARES registration number. ARES registration numbers are composed of a registration year and an ARES sequence number in year. For instance, ARES(2013)12345 is identified by OID 1.3.130.0.2013.12345 .
A child (and grand-child) OID is implicitly allocated each time an ARES number is conferred to a document by the European Commission's ARES system. There is thus no need to explicitly contact the registration authority of this OID to obtain a document OID under this scheme, but the document must be registered in ARES instead.
